Authenticate Australian degree certificates and academic diplomas for use abroad
Australian University degrees, course transcripts, Testamurs and other academic certificates needed for submission abroad can be certified with an Apostille Stamp or authenticated and attested by the embassy of the recipient country in Canberra.
We authenticate all types of Australian academic and educational documents for use abroad:
- Degrees, diplomas, transcripts, letters and other certificates issued by Australian universities and other tertiary education institutions
- Official documents from Australian Public Colleges of Technical and Further Education (TAFE).
- Certificates issued by private schools and colleges in Australia.
- Certificates issued by registered training organisations
Documents and certificates issued by Australian primary and secondary schools.
Degrees needing authentication for submission to a signatory country of the Apostille Convention can be authenticated with an Apostille Stamp from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Degrees needed for countries that have not acceded to the Apostille Convention (e.g. United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Taiwan, Qatar) require authentication by DFAT, then additional attestation by the embassy of the recipient country in Canberra.
University Degrees and Transcripts
Before submitting Australian tertiary education documents to DFAT for authentication, verification must be obtained from the awarding university confirming the degree as a "true and accurate record" (verification may be available online). Prior verification may not necessary if the degree can be verified using a public online verification register.
For further information, see:
- University of Melbourne - Apostilles and Authentications
Testamurs (degree certificates) may not need to be signed and stamped by the University if they can be verified on the University of Melbourne Graduation website. University of Sydney - Apostilles
Academic transcript or degree certificate (testamur) will need to be signed by an authorized staff member at the University.- Monash University - Apostilles
One of the following documents is required: a copy of a Monash Graduate search or a copy of your digital credentials from My eQuals University of New South Wales - Apostilles
University of New South Wales testamurs and academic transcripts requiring verification for an Apostille can be sent to the university by mail.
Apostilles can be applied to original certificates or to copies certified by an Australian notary. Copies notarized by a Notary Public also need to be verified by the university or confirmed by My Equals (you can share the link to your degree on My eQuals to provide the notary with verification). Otherwise, if the notary cannot verify the degree using a publicly available online register, they will need to contact the university directly.
The Australian Notary Public must state that "the original record has been verified with the issuing institution". Copies which have simply been notarized as a "true copy" will not be accepted.
Private school and college documents
Documents from Australian private schools and colleges can be authenticated with an Apostille Stamp when they have been notarized. This includes certificates issued by registered training organisations
In some Australian states and territories, the Department of Education may also verify, and apply their departmental seal, to original education documents issued by private schools and colleges. In such cases, an apostille or authentication certificate can be applied to the original, confirming the signature/seal/stamp of the authorized officer from the relevant state or territory education body.
Primary and secondary school documents
Original primary and secondary school documents must be verified and signed by an authorized officer from the relevant state or territory government education body or notarized by an Australian Notary Public.
Attest Australian degrees to submit to the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Kuwait
Degree certificates and transcripts required for submission to UAE, Vietnamese and Kuwaiti authorities require an authentication certificate from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Apostilles are not valid. Once legalized by DFAT, certificates can be attested at the respective embassy in Canberra. Each document should be authenticated individually - if different documents have been combined under a single notarial certificate, they nmay be rejected.
